3033 El Camino Real
Atherton, California
Type: Card Room
Status: Closed
Open: 1951, Close: 1962

Nightclub bought by Frank Gruttadauria and Steve Zoccoli in 1954, who were granted a license for a two table card room in early 1955, but had it rescinded later that year. Ralph DiTore acquires the club and card table license in 1955. The club and license are taken over by Manuel Ortega and Bernard (Bernie) Kahn in 1960. In 1962, it becomes "Bernie Kahn's Tin Pan Alley".

The L-mold "HILO" chips were traditionally associated with the "Hi-Lo Club" in San Jose, but are more likely used here, as this is the only "HILO" club in California and the San Jose club is known to have used "Hi-Lo" hot stamped chips, using a hyphen.

Above advertisement detail from 6/27/1958 (The Times, San Mateo). Note: the club is actually in Atherton, although it is more often described in newspapers as being in Redwood City.
