The Flamingo Club was a night club inside the Hotel Charles. Charles Witt, a local with a history of gambling, purchased the Kraft Hotel in 1953 and renamed it Hotel Charles and opened the Flamingo Club (sometimes called the Sportsmen's Flamingo Club) in 1955.
