postcards from Yildiz Kiosk . SECOND PART OF THE TEXT"During its first year of operation the Casino paid the City Government 130000 turkish pounds. More than 300 people gathered daily around the Yidiz Casino´s tables.""But obstacles were placed in the way of all foreigners doing business in Turkey. Fines were imposed upon the flimsiest pretext and there was no redress without endless litigation on Turkish Courts. In 1927 the Turkish government decide to impose new taxes, wich the casino refused. On September, 12th , the General Procurator of Turkey appeared in the casino and ordered its closure. It seems the order was given by the Turkish President Moustapha Kemal. The official pretext was that Turkish citizens, included women had been playing there ( the gambling was restricted for foreigners). The true question was that the casino was earning too much money " ( based on the book "The Black Russian" by Vladimir Alexandrov).

From "Paris Soir" 09.16.1927. Source www.gallica.bnf.fr. "The magnificent casino opened last year in Yildiz, former palace of Sultan Abdoul Hammid II, was the subject of the police visit that ordered its closure. They do not know the real reasons for the closure, but it is thought that is related to the epidemic of killings raging in Turkey."
