Carnival Tropicale was among Carnival's first five ships and had a gallant history of service before meeting its demise to sinking while be towed to the scrap heap in a country that the ship was registered. Tropicale sailing career was mostly out of New Orleans when assigned to Carnival. Tropicale left the Carnival fleet in 2000, transferring to sister line Costa Cruises. It sailed for Costa through 2005 as the Costa Tropicale before being transferred to another sister line, P&O Cruises Australia, to sail under the name Pacific Star. In 2008, the ship was transferred yet again, to Spanish line Pullmantur. It was there that it took on the name Ocean Dream. A few years after that, the ship was sold to Peace Boat, a Japan-based non-governmental organization. Aged and tired looking, Carnival decided to have the ship scrapped and had her stripped of all usable gear. While being towed without any engines aboard, the tugs ran her aground on a reef, and she was doomed, and left to sink.
