Cunard Countess was built in Denmark and was originally prepared for passenger use in Italy. She was christened by Mrs Armstrong the wife of Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon. The Cunard Countess began service with Cunard after being registered in the Bahamas, and she became one of the better known cruise ships to cross the Caribbean Sea and middle Atlantic Ocean, becoming a regular sight at San Juan as well as Miami and Santo Domingo. In 1996, the Cunard Countess was sold to Awani Cruises, and was renamed the Awani Dream II.
