| The municipality of São Lourenço was created in 1927 and developed due to the discovery of the mineral waters. In 1935 the Spa was inaugurated. Infrastructures necessary for the exploration of a spa and entertainment were created - 40 hotels and 8 casinos were built.
The first casino built by the company Liscio & Ca was the CASINO PALÁCIO, in front of the Hotel Palácio, followed by the CASINO BRASIL, built in the Hotel Brasil. Then the Casinos EXCELSIOR, IDEAL and MONTE CARLO. Another three would follow (we did not find any records of these).We assume that Casino Ideal was in the hotel with the same name.
São Lourenço began to attract visitors from the upper classes of S. Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, as well as foreigners from neighboring countries who arrived in S.Lourenço on daily flights, not only those who went to medical treatment, but also the gamblers.
The association between the thermal treatments and the gambling gave good fruit to S.Lourenço, who was known for the spa of the show. The casinos have reached an atmosphere of glamor, with dance halls, shows with national and international stars, bars and gambling rooms with roulette and baccarat, among other games. They contributed to the growth and development of S.Lourenço , moving all segments of the city - hotels, commerce, employment, etc.
However with the prohibition of the gambling in Brazil in 1946, S.Lourenço went into decadence.
