| Since 1890 began in S.Lourenço the catchment operations of mineral waters. With the exploitation of the waters with curative fame, grew the influx of people to the spa. From 1912 were built the first hotels, initiating the consolidation of S.Lourenço as spa.
The great development of S.Lourenço occurs with the installation of casinos in the 1930s - were built at least, the casinos Palace , Brazil, Excelsior, Ideal and Monte Carlo. The gambling will contribute to the great development of spa, attracting wealthy people from Rio de Janeiro and S.Paulo states. Air links are created to ensure transportation.
Casino Brazil settled in Brazil Hotel, built in 1923, next to the Parque das Águas. It became one of top casinos in Brazil, providing its clients with different entertainment beyond the gambling .The gambling ended in 1946 with the prohibition of it in Brazil.
With the close of gambling, the influx of tourists has decreased and S.Lourenço underwent a period of decadence. |
