The casinos ( brazilians use the term cassinos) arrived in Brazil during the Empire and were attended even by the Emperor D.Pedro II. With the establishment of the republic in 1917 went underground. In 1934 President Getulio Vargas allowed the reopening of casinos. By decree of 30 April 1946, the government of President Marechal Dutra ordered the closure of casinos. Then 71 casinos were closed all over Brazil. The Caldas de Cipó ( spa) story of Liana (spa) begins in 1906.On the operation of spa, the dealer Genésio Salles builds in 1929 a luxury hotel, called Hotel Radium. In 1930 it is built next to the hotel, a casino with gambling rooms, dance room and bar. The casino takes its name from its owner Genésio Salles. With the ban prohibition of gambling in Brazil in 1946, the casino closes its activities. The glory of Cipo was short-lived. The spa had lived its peak in the 1930s and 1940s, when the casino of the city attracted the rich mill owners of Alagoas and Pernambuco. Entire families came from all corners of the country to bathe in radioactive sulfur springs with therapeutic properties. The hotel and the casino are now in ruins
