The Casino Eldorado was inaugurated on July 1, 1937, on Avenida 5 de
Agosto, in an elegant and comfortable Art Deco building, built
especially for this purpose. On the night of the inauguration "
exhibition of several artists from Recife accompanied by an excellent
Jazz Band ".
It was the city's most famous cabaret and one of the most famous in
the North and Northeast of Brazil, and symbol of the golden years of
the city, when the cotton culture made the region very prosperous and
rich. It was the bohemian and luxuriant temple of the cotton coronels,
where their Jazz orchestras were famous, attracting excursions from
the bohemians of the neighboring towns, who came to watch the casino
shows, gamble and have fun with the women who frequented it.
In addition to the showrooms, which featured artists and famous
dancers, it had apartments for women, and gambling rooms with roulette
tables, baccarat, poker and other games of the time (ronda, campista,
esplandim, etc.).
The gambling would end in 1946, with the ban on gambling in Brazil.
The building is now in ruins. |
