The casinos ( brazilians use the term cassinos) arrived in Brazil during the Empire and were attended even by the Emperor D.Pedro II. With the establishment of the republic in 1917 went underground. In 1934 President Getulio Vargas allowed the reopening of casinos. By decree of 30 April 1946, the government of President Marechal Dutra ordered the closure of casinos. Then 71 casinos were closed all over Brazil. Grande Hotel de La Plage was built of wood in 1893. In December 1897 it was destroyed by fire. It was then reconstrted as a modest masonry installation, replaced in 1912 by the third version of the hotel. Owned a casino, and fine facilities, they will be used by the upper class, accustomed to luxury. It was the biggest attraction of Guarujá, where the gambling prevailed. After the ban of gambling, lost importance, having been demolished in the beginning of the 1960s. |
