Iraí had its foundation as a municipality, made official in 1933. The spa achieved some notoriety with large numbers of bathers, especially in summer.
On February 20, 1941, it was opened the famous Casino Guarany, being Eurico Nunes and its wife Eulália,the owners. Eurico Nunes came to town for health care in the spa and ended up settling with a venture that marked the city's life This building, built in just five months was a beautiful example of art deco architecture, that had not survived. The casino had gambling room, restaurant, dance floor, smoking room, bar, etc.
The casino contributed greatly to the tourist movement, increasing the yield
trade, bars and hotels. It was open during all the year. In its thirty tables were played Roulette, baccarat, poker and various other card games, being the casino frequented by the elite of the region. With the ban of gambling in Brazil in 1946, the casino closed, decreasing the number of bathers to Iraí, which saw its economy to decline.
