Centro dos Caçadores or Clube dos Caçadores (Hunters Club)was the most famous night club, cabaret-casino that operated in Porto Alegre between 1914 and 1938. The name will have derived from a bronze statue that stood at the entrance of the establishment, with the figures of two hunters. Variety shows, gambling (baccarat, roulette, card games) and other activities specific to libertine entertainment venues, were held there. It was home to the most affluent and important members of society in Porto Alegre and the surrounding area. Its owner nicknamed Captain Lulu, was in fact called Luis Alves de Castro. He became the owner of a huge fortune and left for Rio de Janeiro, opening the Hotel Casino Icaraí, and in 1936 becoming a partner of Joaquim Rolla, owner of several famous casinos, such as Casino da Urca and Casino Quitandinha. The Club dos Caçadores delivered to its partners will remain in operation until 1938.
