| The casinos ( brazilians use the term cassinos) arrived in Brazil during the Empire and were attended even by the Emperor D.Pedro II. With the establishment of the republic in 1917 went underground.In 1934 President Getulio Vargas allowed the reopening of casinos.By decree of 30 April 1946, the government of President Marechal Dutra ordered the closure of casinos. Then 71 casinos were closed all over Brazil.The history of casinos in Poços de Caldas begins in the 19th century, when the city was a small village. Recors indicate that by 1890 the hotels, receiving tourists in search of thermal treatments, had gambling . First casino was officialy registered in 1905, and many clubs and casinos settled in the city, which was considered by many as the Las Vegas in Brazil. The gambling chips circulated as regular currency in the city.Casino Ao Ponto opened in the years 1920´s. The casino became famous by its musical performances, and had focused on big shows, having a renowned "jazz band". The casino existed until 1944, when it was destroyed by fire. In 1946, in the site was built a building which now houses the City Hall of Poços de Caldas. |
