In order to meet the needs of Brazil's first automobile owners, the club was founded on September 27, 1907. It was designed by Alberto Santos Drumont, the pioneer of aviation, who imported the first combustion vehicle in Brazil. The building of Rua do Passeio, built as the residence of the Baron de Barbacena, was occupied in 1845 by Casino Fluminense. At the beginning of the Republic was the headquarters of the Chamber of Deputies, was later occupied by the Clube dos Diarios and finally in 1927 became the headquarters of Automovel Club do Brasil. It was later installed in Imperial Bingo until its ban and closure in 2003. The building is currently abandoned and vacated. |
