| The Grande Hotel do Recife was opened in 1940. The grand opening party was was fabulous ,with the partitipation of all the elite of the state. There was a Gala for three thousand guests, dressed up. In this ball participated four orchestras. The next night was opened the casino, with the presence of famous singers .The casino worked until 1946, ending than the gambling, due to the ban of the gambling in Brazil. In 1968 started to be administered by the state.It was closed in 1992, now belonging to the Pernambuco Court of Justice.
Among celebrities who stayed at the Grande Hotel stand out from the presidents Getúlio Vargas from Brazil and Charles De Gaulle from France, the Emperor of Ethiopia Haile Sallasie, film director Orson Welles, actor Errol Flynn, etc. |
