| The Atafona Beach is located in the coast of S. João da Barra municipality. In the beginnings of the twentieth century had a large influx of tourists from neighboring cities. It settled a casino, the Casino Hotel Balneário de Atafona, which ran until 1946, the year that the gambling was banned in Brazil. By order of the Judge of S.João da Barra the machines and some casino equipment were destroyed, but the casino continued to operate clandestinely until 1956. Today the building houses an inn.
