Lés is a small town situated in the Pyrines, near the border of France, 22 kms from Bagneres de Luchon. The Casino de Lés was strategically located to atract the french and turists from Luchon, in the times that gambling was not allowed in France. At that time, there were several small casinos and gambling rooms in the border area, on the Spanish side, such as Casino de Portillon and Casino de Pont du Roy. We think it ended in 1880, due to a news item published in the newspaper La Charente of 27 May 1880” “ L´Avenir de Luchon annonce que les jesuites auraient acheté le casino de Lès dans le Val d´Aran ( Espagne ), pour s´y etablir aprés les vacances.” (L´Avenir de Luchon announces that the Jesuits would have bought the casino at Lès in the Val d´Aran (Spain), to settle there after the holidays. ” In postcards that we reproduce, it appears that in the Casino building a College will be installed later.
