The Societe des Regates de Cannes was founded in 1859 and will give rise to the Cercle Nautique de Cannes. From 1861 the Duke of Villarmosa presides over the destinies of the society and impresses to the same a great dynamics with the organization of regattas of great sailboats.
The society orders to build an imposing building that is inaugurated on October 1, 1864.
The Cercle Nautique of Cannes was a society of very restricted access and whose members belonged to the aristocracy and the high finance.
In the cercle the gambling worked strongly, namely baccarat.
The first Cannes film festivals were held at the Cercle Nautique until the opening of the Palais des Festivals in 1949, built on the site of the Cercle building.
Currently the heir of Cercle is the "Yatch Club de Cannes".
A register of 1883 indicated that M.Sliaume (26 Rue Paradis-Paris) was the manufacturer and supplier of mother-of-pearl gambling jetons and plaques to Cercle Nautique. |
