Casino Le Ruhl opened on Nov. 15, 1974.During the period 1974- 1982 the Ruhl casino was operated by Socret, that was owned by Jean- Dominique Fratoni( who controlled also the gambling in other riviera casinos, like Sainte Maxime, Saint Raphael, Juan les Pins and Menton) Nice was than the resort of choice for wealthy emirs, arab princes and high- rolling Iranians, which caused a real war between casinos for control of the gambling. The competion turned nasty, and a serie of shooting deaths also take place. The authorities closed Casino Ruhl for a time in 1979. Fratoni before was jailed slipped out of France, going to Switzerland in 1980. In the 1980´s Casino Ruhl is back in business, but the Interior Minister closed the casino on Jan. 5, 1982 It reopened in 1986. In 1987, being purchased by Sun Casino,owned by the south african billionaire Sol Kerzner (SNEB), which sell the casino to the group Accor in 1990. Becomes part of the group Barriere in 2005.
