Distiller, now part of United Distillers. When you see the Fleischmann's logo everyone first thinks of the yellow packets of yeast found in grocery stores across the nation. However, most do not know is that yeast business grew along-side of a very successful distilling industry founded in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1868. Fleischmann's built a yeast exhibit for The Southern Exposition which ran for four years and then opened a distillery for gin 1884, the company was doing so well that they opened an office in New York City.
Prohibition shut down their distilling business, until the Repeal of Prohibition, and then reopened in Peekskvill, N.Y. the distillery started making gin, vodka and other spirits.
The company added Fleischmann's vodka in 1956, moving their production to Clinton, Iowa. After selling to multiple owners, the gin brand was sold to Sazerac and Sazerac is the present owner of the Fleischmann's trademarks. |
