The casinos ( brazilians use the term cassinos) arrived in Brazil during the Empire and were attended even by the Emperor D.Pedro II. With the establishment of the republic in 1917 went underground.In 1934 President Getulio Vargas allowed the reopening of casinos.By decree of 30 April 1946, the government of President Marechal Dutra ordered the closure of casinos. Then 71 casinos were closed all over Brazil.
Hotel Atlantico located at Ana da Costa avenue was opened in November 29, 1928. At the time the building with five floors had a theater and a casino, that was the busiest for the upper middle class.
