T. R. King sold 620 of these large crown chips in four denominations to George Goldenberg at 9236 Sunset Boulevard, and at 10355 Greenleaf, North Hollywood, California, in 1942. The former address was "The Little Club" and the latter address was likely a private residence.
George (Goldie) B. Goldenberg was part owner of the Sphinx Club (at 9236 Sunset Blvd.) which closed in 1941, and re-opened as the "Little Club" in 1942. In the early 1940s, Goldie was also part owner of the Clover and Colony Clubs in Los Angeles. These chips may have been used at one of those locations.
The "Little Club" advertisement is from 2/19/1942 (Los Angeles Times). |
