(Paulson) We had a call notifying us that $100 secondary checks had to be put into play following certain events in both locations, and that replacement primary checks needed to be provided as soon as possible.

We were in the process of moving production to Mexico and informed the casinos that as a stop-gap it would only be possible to provide a minimal number of solid checks with hand painted edge spots at very short notice so they had something to use for the 4-6 weeks we would require to re-rack. Given the circumstances under which these checks were needed, the orders were approved by NJ gaming.

It was not envisaged that the wear to the painted edge spots would be as fast as it was. By the time the new chips were delivered, many of the spots on the painted chips were partially worn away. As a result of this, NJ gaming introduced a regulation specifically prohibiting non-permanent edge spot markings.

The majority, but not all, of the temporary checks were returned to us for destruction when the new rack was delivered. That might answer your question as to how some still exist now.
