This english style club founded in the nineteenth century, was the most famous club of Iasi, standing in one of the best buildings of the city, the Beldman Palace.The club had reading rooms, restaurant, gambling rooms, etc., as usual in this kind of clubs.
The first horse race took place in 1849, calling to Iasi many nobles from Austro Hungarian Empire, Russia and Poland. The Jockey Club that had 78 founding members, most large landowners, had as a major objective "improve the breed of horses in Romania"
The gambling had a very strong activity at the club. Although existing from earlier,the Jockey Club was formally constituted in 1862 and dissolved in 1945.
The building has acomoddated restaurants, hotels, shops, etc and was demolished in 1959
Other famous clubs in Iasi were the Concordia Club and Military Club.
