According to Dwayne Kling's book, "The Rise of the Biggest Little City," the Oak Room had one blackjack table in the early 1950s. In 1971 the owners were denied permission to add two more tables because of "unsuitable supervisory enforcement of the pit." In 1972 Si Redd took over the place, which was primarily a bar/cocktail lounge, but wasn't licensed for table games. The Oak Room closed in 1973 when Harrah's Club took over the Greyhound bus depot, where the Oak Room was located. That area is the eastern wing of Harrah's today.
