Originally owned by F. J. "Bookie Butch" Nisetich. Management of the club was taken over in 1940 by his nephew, Stanley Nisetich, who later became the majority owner. It was originally located at 415 K St., and moved to 7th Street in 1959.

It was considered Sacramento's premier card room and horse-betting parlor. Named after an actual racehorse, its reputation drew card players from around the nation. The Equipoise also contained a restaurant and bar. By 1975, the "Lucky Streak Card Room" was at this address.
