Marcell's was a posh illegal casino operated by Homer "Slim" Gordon out of the former Marcell Country Club in West Altadena, adjacent to Pasadena. More often called the "Marcell Inn". Raided in 1934, and closed in 1936.

Mason & Co. sold 2500 of these chips in three denominations to H. N. Weaver, 508 Elm Drive, Beverly Hills, California. No date.

Gordon later opened "Club Marcell" on the Sunset Boulevard around 1941, and it is possible these chips were used there too.
