The gambling was allowed in the Algarve region, in the 70's, and the grant awarded to Sointal, which opened three casinos – Monte Gordo, Alvor and Vilamoura, Casino Monte Gordo opened in 1973, instaled in the building where before was the Ocean Casino,. Casino Monte Gordo continues to operate today in the same building, now owned by Solverde, a company that, along with three casinos in Algarve, owns also the Casino de Espinho and the Casino de Chaves.
