The gambling was allowed in the Algarve region, in the 70's, and the grant awarded to Sointal, which opened three casinos – Monte Gordo, Alvor and Vilamoura. The casino opened in 1973 in Alvor Beach. Moved in 10.6.1989 to Praia da Rocha, in facilities located near the Hotel Tarik, renamed Casino da Praia da Rocha. In December moved again to the Hotel Algarve, also at Praia da Rocha, where is today, changins the denomination to Hotal Algarve Casino. The Alvor casino chips continued to be used in the Casino da Praia da Rocha, that have later edited chips with the new designatin. Hotel Algarve Algarve is owned by Solverde, a company that, along with three casinos in Algarve, owns also the Casino de Espinho and the Casino de Chaves
