In 1976 the military junta authorized the Municipality of Coquimbo to install a casino that would replace the old building of Penuelas. While the original structure was remodeled and refurbished, the Casino of Coquimbo moved to the current House of Culture and Tourism. In the mid-80s the Casino returned to its original location in Penuelas.
