The gambling was allowed in the Algarve region, in the 70's, and the grant awarded to Sointal, which opened three casinos – Monte Gordo, Alvor and Vilamoura. The Casino de Alvor opened in 1973 in Alvor Beach. The casino moved in 10.6.1989 to Praia da Rocha, in facilities located near the Hotel Tarik, and was renamed Casino da Praia da Rocha. Some of the Casino Alvor chips, jetons and plaques were used in Casino Praia da Rocha.
