By the end of ninenteenth century the wealhiest people from Porto, closed their town houses and come to spend some summer months by the sea. The Clube de Cadouços or Casino de Cadouços was founded on 1881 to “ provide subscribers and their families with agreable pastimes, such as Reading, playing cards, billiards, dominos, chess, dramatic shows, concerts, dances, instruction and charitable activities”. The Clube de Cadouços was very elitist and restrict and the candidates should write a form with personal information and in addition “ any further details necessary for the Directors to know if they meet the conditions required for being admitted”.
