Was: Gold Nugget Cafe
719 12th Street
Sacramento, California
Type: Card Room
Status: Closed
Open: 1958, Close: 1980

From 1941 to 1958, the "Gold Nugget Cafe" was a bar, restaurant, and card room located at 316 K Street. Owned by James R. Cummings and Peter Mikacich, Sr. (see "Was").

In 1958, it moved to 1021 6th Street, changed its name to the "Gold Nugget Club", and was owned by Mikacich, Leon David, and Morris Weidman. It moved again in 1962 to 719 12th St., where it stayed until it closed. Also called the "Gold Nugget Card Room and Restaurant". Note: it is possible that after it closed in 1980, that some of these chips were used at the "Gold Nugget Card Room" in San Diego, CA.

Listing (4th from top) from the 1959 Sacramento Yellow Pages, under "Card Rooms". Photograph of the club at the 6th Street location, probably from early 1962. If you enlarge the photo, you can see a sign announcing the club's imminent move to 12th Street. To the far left, a street sign for the "49er Card Room" is visible.
