The Concordia Argonaut was an exclusive social club created with the merger of the Concordia and Argonauts Clubs (two historically Jewish clubs) in 1939. Membership peaked in the 1960s with 600 members, around the time that the club opened to non-Jews. Only beginning in the 1970s, were women allowed to join. Members describe frequent poker games.

Above left, photograph of a poker game in the lounge from the 1940s, and the above center photograph of the Van Ness Avenue club building is from 1964 (Courtesy of the San Francisco Public Library).
